Job Description
This entry-level Production Operator role supports the processing of silicon for semiconductor wafer manufacturing in a poly prep environment. You follow complex, detailed procedures, operate both automated and manual tools, and complete all documentation accurately, on time, and in full compliance with specifications. You work a 12-hour day shift (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.) on a compressed workweek schedule, contributing directly to consistent, high-quality production output.
Responsibilities
- Follow complex, detailed production procedures and standard work practices to process silicon for semiconductor wafer manufacturing.
- Operate a variety of automated and manual tools, including clean line etch benches, scales, barcode scanners, and a PC, in accordance with process specifications.
- Work from product specifications, written work procedures, and verbal instructions to perform production tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Check and inspect operations against predetermined tolerances to ensure all products meet quality standards.
- Review etch bench run lists and ensure material does not mix with other material, is handled correctly according to standard work procedures, and is labeled accurately according to specifications.
- Perform daily calibrations on process tools and verify that all calibration data meets process specifications before releasing tools to production.
- Continuously monitor, analyze, and verify that all process data and conditions are correct and meet quality specifications before moving material to the next process step.
- Input, track, and confirm incoming and outgoing material for each process step using computer systems and barcode scanners.
- Complete computerized forms and labels for each lot and submit requests for delivery of materials and equipment according to work orders and schedule requirements.
- Use email and telephone to communicate with team members and other departments as needed to support smooth production flow.
- Clean equipment and work areas to meet clean room and 5S standards, maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
- Use Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and follow all safety regulations and procedures when working around hazardous or volatile chemicals.
- Identify and understand danger points in the process and take appropriate action to maintain a safe operation.
- Learn and apply basic maintenance processes for assigned equipment and work with team and maintenance resources to address equipment issues.
- Cross-train and become certified in one or more process areas and rotate among various process areas as needed.
- Multi-task effectively by managing multiple lots, tools, and documentation requirements while maintaining high quality and accuracy.
- Use strong attention to detail and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet production schedules.
- Lift, move, and handle materials and equipment, frequently exerting 10–20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs, following proper ergonomic and safety practices.
- Stand, walk, and use stairs for extended periods while performing production and cleaning tasks.
- Kneel, bend, and crouch as needed to lift parts, use hand tools, and access equipment in various positions.
- Communicate effectively in English with supervisors and co-workers to clarify instructions, report issues, and support team goals.
- Read, write, and comprehend instructions, procedures, technical and informational manuals, reports, and correspondence related to production activities.
- Use office equipment such as copiers and scanners and access document systems to retrieve needed procedures and documentation.
- Contribute positively to a cohesive production team by collaborating, sharing information, and supporting others to meet production and quality goals.
Essential Skills
- Ability to understand and follow complex, detailed procedures and work instructions.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and compute percentages and decimals using a calculator.
- Basic computer skills, including use of a keyboard to input data and track material in computer systems.
- Ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English to understand instructions and communicate with management and co-workers.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately complete documentation and labels without defects.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time well in a fast-paced production environment.
- Ability to work well with others as part of a team-oriented, cohesive production group.
- Basic safety knowledge, including understanding and using Safety Data Sheets (SDS) related to the process.
- Ability to understand and follow all safety regulations and recognize danger points in the process.
- Physical ability to perform constant repetitive hand and wrist motions and grasping tasks.
- Ability to stand, walk, and use stairs for long periods during a 12-hour shift.
- Ability to frequently lift and exert force between 10–20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to kneel, bend, and crouch, often while lifting parts and using hand tools.
- Close vision capability (within arm’s length) to perform detailed inspection and process tasks.
- Ability to work around hazardous and/or volatile chemicals while following strict safety protocols.
- Organizational skills to maintain clean, orderly work areas and meet 5S standards.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills to support coordinated production operations.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and stay organized while handling multiple responsibilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in production, general labor, or manufacturing operations is beneficial but not required for this entry-level role.
- Experience in manufacturing quality or quality assurance is an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely in environments with loud machinery and strict safety protocols.
- Experience working in team-oriented environments where coordination and cooperation are critical.
- Proven ability to stay organized, manage priorities, and maintain attention to detail under time pressure.
- Comfort using email, desk telephones, and basic office equipment such as copiers and scanners.
- Ability to learn and perform basic maintenance processes on production equipment.
- Willingness to cross-train in multiple process areas and rotate among different tasks as needed.

Work Environment
This role is based in a semiconductor manufacturing facility that operates a 12-hour day shift from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on a compressed workweek schedule, alternating between 3 days on/4 days off and 4 days on/3 days off, which includes working every other weekend and occasional overtime when needed. The production area can be somewhat dirty and loud, with machinery noise levels that may require shouting to be heard. You may be exposed to fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, oils, and other fluids that can affect skin or respiratory systems when performing certain tasks, and you follow very strict safety protocols at all times. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing are provided and required, including safety glasses, job-specific gloves and hand protection, face shields and other acid-protective gear when needed, area-specific uniforms, aprons, and hair nets; ear plugs are available for optional use. Work involves standing and walking for long periods, frequent use of stairs, and regular lifting of materials. You use a combination of clean line etch benches, scales, barcode scanners, PCs, and office equipment such as copiers and scanners in a structured, process-driven environment that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and adherence to 5S and clean room standards.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.00/hr.
