Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. This role manages production teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, ensures compliance with quality and safety standards, and contributes to strategic planning. The Production Manager plays a key role in resource planning, performance monitoring, and ensuring customer requirements are met.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and oversee daily production schedules to meet output and quality goals.
  • Lead, train, and develop production supervisors and operators.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (OSHA, FDA, BRC).
  • Monitor production KPIs (efficiency, waste, downtime) and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve operational issues.
  • Manage labor allocation, equipment utilization, and material resources.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Support new product introductions through process validation and operator training.
  • Communicate performance, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior management.

Environmental Management System (EMS) Responsibilities

In addition to standard EMS responsibilities, Production Managers are accountable for:

  • Ensuring production processes comply with ISO 14001 requirements.
  • Promoting resource conservation and waste reduction initiatives across teams.
  • Conducting environmental risk assessments related to production activities.
  • Training and coaching production staff on EMS responsibilities and emergency response.
  • Reviewing environmental performance metrics and implementing corrective actions.
  • Leading audits, inspections, and continuous improvement projects tied to EMS objectives.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Work Experience: 5–7 years in manufacturing leadership roles, preferably in plastics, packaging, or food-contact industries.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of production systems and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Familiarity with ISO, BRC, HACCP standards.
  • Understanding of equipment capabilities and capacity planning.

Work Environment: Office and production floor; requires frequent presence on the shop floor.
