Job Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily manufacturing operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective production. This role manages production teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, ensures compliance with quality and safety standards, and contributes to strategic planning. The Production Manager plays a key role in resource planning, performance monitoring, and ensuring customer requirements are met.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee daily production schedules to meet output and quality goals.
- Lead, train, and develop production supervisors and operators.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards (OSHA, FDA, BRC).
- Monitor production KPIs (efficiency, waste, downtime) and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with maintenance, quality, and supply chain teams to resolve operational issues.
- Manage labor allocation, equipment utilization, and material resources.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Support new product introductions through process validation and operator training.
- Communicate performance, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior management.
Environmental Management System (EMS) Responsibilities
In addition to standard EMS responsibilities, Production Managers are accountable for:
- Ensuring production processes comply with ISO 14001 requirements.
- Promoting resource conservation and waste reduction initiatives across teams.
- Conducting environmental risk assessments related to production activities.
- Training and coaching production staff on EMS responsibilities and emergency response.
- Reviewing environmental performance metrics and implementing corrective actions.
- Leading audits, inspections, and continuous improvement projects tied to EMS objectives.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Work Experience: 5–7 years in manufacturing leadership roles, preferably in plastics, packaging, or food-contact industries.
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of production systems and Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with ISO, BRC, HACCP standards.
- Understanding of equipment capabilities and capacity planning.
