Procurement Specialist 2 - Iowa Veterans Home

The Iowa Veterans Home is now accepting applications to fill a Procurement Specialist 2 position to coordinate purchasing for the Iowa Veterans Home. The successful candidate will review and evaluate all departmental purchase requests and support the purchasing team as the lead worker in the Purchasing Office.


Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Lead strategies and initiative to determine best practices with state contracts, federal contracts, targeted small businesses, non-contractual request and personal service contract agreements.
  • Lead negotiations with vendors for best pricing and service.
  • Assist the agency with credit card issues, policies and procedures, competitive bidding, state contracts, dollar limitation and travel.
  • Maintain records to confirm all vendors are compliant with all purchases and services.
  • Provide support to Purchasing staff as the Lead Worker in the Purchasing office.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Six years of full-time work experience in the procurement of technical, standardized, expendable, and non-expendable items.
  2. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business or public administration, accounting, or economics, and experience equal to two years of full-time work in the procurement of technical, standardized, expendable, and non-expendable items.
  3. A total of six years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
  4. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Procurement Specialist 1.
