This role focuses on minimizing machine downtime, reducing scrap, and supporting process improvements through careful documentation and collaboration with the production and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Begin teardown promptly after the previous run, neatly storing tools, molds, and materials, and preparing the area for the next setup.
  • Verify that all required materials, including consumables, raw materials, equipment, and documentation, are pre-staged before teardown and setup.
  • Alert the supervisor immediately if any required materials, equipment, or documentation are missing prior to setup.
  • Perform efficient machine setups, including purging, mold installation, program downloads, and equipment hookups, with a strong focus on speed, accuracy, and safety.
  • Operate and adjust injection molding machines and related equipment to achieve stable production and consistent part quality.
  • Troubleshoot production runs to achieve quality parts, minimize scrap, and seek assistance when necessary, especially when encountering significant startup scrap or persistent process issues.
  • Ensure product inspection meets established quality standards and validate results with the inspector when required.
  • Complete all required production and quality documentation accurately, legibly, and on time, maintaining proper document control.
  • Update process documentation when improvements are made and share these updates with the Process Engineer to ensure retention and standardization of best practices.
  • Drive continuous process improvements by identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce scrap, and enhance product quality.
  • Complete thorough end-of-shift tie-ins, communicating machine status, process changes, quality concerns, and outstanding issues to the incoming shift.
  • Pay close attention to detail when reading, writing, or completing all work documentation to avoid errors and maintain traceability.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with machine setup, including purging, program downloads, and equipment hookups.
  • Ability to inspect parts for quality, follow inspection criteria, and collaborate with inspectors to validate results.
  • Competence in completing production and quality documentation accurately and maintaining document control.

  • Experience operating and setting up plastic injection molding equipment and related tooling.
  • Familiarity with mold machine operation, mold tooling, and plastic production workflows.
  • Experience supporting process engineering activities by sharing process improvements and documentation updates.
  • Comfort working with various plastic materials and understanding their behavior during molding.
