My long time client who has a dynamic organization seeks a PLC controls Engineer for their Charlotte, NC area plant. They have an excellent benefit plan with a very generous 401k plan matching 100% of the 1st 6% and even if you’re not in the plan they put 3%into your 401k.

Experience: BS EE or related with 5+ years of experience from a manufacturing process with strong PLC and field instrumentation knowledge with Programming and ladder logic of PLC’s. Allen Bradley is desired.

Duties” This a pretty straight forward Controls Engineering position focusing in on Programming and maintaining their PLC’s and field instrumentation will work closely with Production and Maintenance this a 3 shift 5 24 operation and is a non union plant.

Job Description

Position Title: Controls Engineer

Reports to: Plant Manager

1. MAIN PURPOSE (Briefly state the job's overall objective)

Provides day to day support to the Production and Maintenance team to minimize production downtime. Designs, implements, tests automation and control systems for process or manufacturing systems. Strong knowledge of PLC program with ladder logic programming and troubleshooting.

2. DIMENSIONS OF JOB (i.e. Sales Turnover; dept. operating budget; material and/or labor costs; value added; sales responsibility)

  • Keep machine downtime to a minimal.
  • Support and manage outside contractors if needed.


3. SCOPE OF THE JOB (i.e. Scope (Regional, Global, Local))

  • Charlotte area NC

4. COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB (i.e. The occupant manages vendors from different geographical regions with various financial and legal conditions and the level and impact of decisions the occupant needs to make.)

6. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designing, implementing, and supporting PLC, HMI, and SCADA software for control systems and equipment
  • Maintain the manufacturing plant's controls systems at “World Class” standards.
  • Install software updates with the latest versions.
  • Participate on project teams in the development of control/instrumentation system specifications and support factory acceptance testing of new equipment systems.
  • Lead the development and execution of small projects that are electrical/controls in nature. Upgrading of obsolete controls to modern technology.



  • Perform system start-ups and operational checkouts on systems including configuration, wiring, calibration, grounding, and power testing.
  • Reload and reboot PLC to restore faulted equipment after power outages.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections.
  • Provide hardware and software application support assistance to maintenance and production.
  • Setup and configure replacement electronic and controls components to fit specific applications.
  • Working with others in the Engineering Dept. maintain the plant's process networks.
  • Utilize technical materials such as equipment manuals, SDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), schematics, and blueprints to troubleshoot and maintain systems.
  • Update, modify, and continuously improve existing controls systems including ladder logic programs, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interface, hydraulics, and pneumatics distribution and control
