Title: Private Collection Archivist
Employment Type and FLSA Status: Full-time Hourly Non-Exempt
Location and Hours: On-site in Wilsonville, OR; hours to be discussed.
The Private Collection Archivist is organized, efficient, and detail oriented. They are responsible for documenting and preserving a personal archive of historical and contemporary materials. The collection includes photographs, newspaper clippings, advertisements, correspondence, memorabilia, and other artifacts representing multiple generations and organizations. The ideal candidate will combine a passion for history and storytelling with strong technical skills in digitization, metadata entry, film background, and archival organization.
Responsibilities
• Organize, catalog, and preserve physical materials such as photos, documents, and memorabilia
• Digitize items through scanning and photography to maintain a secure digital archive
• Maintain an organizational system for both physical and digital assets
• Create detailed metadata, labels, and descriptions to ensure accessibility and long-term preservation
• Research dates, names, and historical context to enhance collection documentation
• Handle fragile or irreplaceable materials with professional care and discretion
• Recommend archival best practices for long-term preservation and storage
• Maintain confidentiality and respect for personal and private materials
Qualifications
• Must be able to pass a background check with successful references
• Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, History, Museum Studies, or related fields preferred
• Experience working with personal, historical, or special collections
• Proficiency in digital scanning, photo editing, and file organization
• Familiarity with archival software or digital asset management systems; NetX preferred
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects independently
• Knowledge of preservation techniques in photography and paper materials preferred
• Understanding of intellectual property law as it pertains to archival materials and content rights
• Discretion and professionalism when handling private materials
Compensation and Benefits
• Hourly Range: $30 to $34 DOE
