The Prison Enterprises (PE) Truck Driver position is responsible for delivery of PE’s finished goods and agricultural commodities statewide.

Possession of a current Louisiana Class A commercial driver's license plus two years of experience in mobile equipment operation requiring a Class A CDL driver's license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Completion of a tractor trailer driving training program will substitute for six months of the required experience.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.

Job Duties:

  • The PE position requires supervising inmate workers and monitoring performance and quality of products produced, ensuring safety, resolving issues and maintaining compliance with regulations.

  • Delivery of PE’s finished goods and agricultural commodities statewide primarily to state correctional facilities, with regular deliveries of commissary items (food and hygiene), meat and cheese commodities, as well as inmate clothing, which are all absolutely essential for daily prison operations. Additionally, furniture deliveries statewide requiring loading, offloading and installation. The PE Transportation division manages a fleet of approximately thirteen trucks.

  • Essential attributes are reliability & time management, safety-oriented, effective communication skills and professionalism.



Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.



Compensation:

This position also offers premium pay: A rate between $.50 and $1.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC. This position also offers an additional $0.58 per hour for location pay.

    • This is a 24 hour facility.
