Overview:
ACS Professional Staffing is looking for an employee to work hybrid with our client. This Principal Risk Analyst will support Power Operations Risk Management by running and analyzing End of Day production reports, assessing trading risk, and delivering daily price and volumetric risk insights to stakeholders. The role partners closely with trading, portfolio management, and commercial teams to translate complex contracts and qualitative inputs into quantitative risk and valuation analysis. This position requires deep expertise in energy markets, advanced risk management concepts, and hands on experience with Endur and quantitative modeling. Candidates should bring 8+ years of utility or energy industry experience, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to communicate complex results clearly across technical and non technical audiences. This full-time position is located in Tualatin, Oregon.
Responsibilities:
- Support Power Operations Risk Management teams by running, analyzing, and maintaining operational and End of Day (EOD) production reports.
- Execute and monitor standardized production reporting processes to ensure timely and accurate daily deliverables.
- Troubleshoot production reporting systems, identify issues, communicate status, and track resolution through completion.
- Collaborate with Power Operations to assess trading risk limits, evaluate exposures, and support risk analysis and decision making.
- Support the development, validation, and enhancement of quantitative risk and valuation models; assist internal partners in applying these models effectively.
- Provide analytical support across trading, portfolio management, origination, energy market risk, credit risk, and finance.
- Translate qualitative inputs from commercial teams into quantitative analysis to support performance and risk mitigation decisions.
- Support evaluation of benefits, costs, risks, and mitigation strategies associated with energy infrastructure investments.
- Assist in reviewing and supporting complex valuation and pricing models for structured products, including tolling agreements, PPAs, load following deals, shaped products, options, weather derivatives, and contingency products.
- Apply and interpret risk metrics such as Value at Risk (VaR), Mark to Market, and Gross Margin at Risk (GMaR).
- Perform statistical analysis and ad hoc quantitative analysis related to trading, hedging, and short term market developments.
- Communicate modeling approaches and analytical results clearly to technical and non technical stakeholders, emphasizing business impact and rationale.
- Recommend process and system improvements aligned with existing Risk Management Policy and Procedure frameworks.
- Support daily presentation of price and volumetric risk reports to front office and other stakeholders.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, economics, finance, or a related field or 8+ years of experience in a financial risk role, preferably within a utility environment.
- 8+ years of experience in an analytical or risk focused role within the energy industry or an academic setting with direct application to energy markets.
- Utilities experience required.
- Broad knowledge of North American energy markets, with emphasis on power, natural gas, and renewables.
- Advanced understanding of risk management concepts and quantitative risk analysis.
- Experience supporting or developing quantitative models, including time series analysis, advanced regression/econometrics, or optimization techniques.
- Experience with Production Cost Modeling.
- Hands on experience with Endur (ION Endur ETRM).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with VBA, Python, Power BI, Tableau, and Snowflake preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex contracts and translate contract terms into system level deal structures.
- Strong ability to navigate ambiguity, recognize when to seek guidance, and leverage subject matter experts.
- Proven ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly in written and verbal formats to senior and executive audiences.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams outside of risk management.
