About Bentley & Our Platform Mission

Bentley is creating an open platform for the built and natural environment—empowering software developers to build digital twin experiences. We believe in advancing the platform for the collective success of the ecosystem, equipping the developer community with open source and open standards. Our work spans organizations ranging from the world’s largest construction companies to the U.S. government and FOX Sports on NFL Sunday. Cesium has more than 10,000,000 lifetime open-source downloads, and the Cesium ion cloud reaches more than 20,000 monthly active developers.

The Role

You are the single-threaded owner for a set of strategic first‑party customers, turning their goals into platform priorities and roadmap influence, aligning stakeholders across customer–platform–engineering, and owning outcomes like adoption, value delivery, and multi‑year expansion.

We’re Hiring 3 Principals — Choose One Focus Area

All three roles share the same core expectations and hiring bar; each is anchored to a specific strategic surface area:

1) Platform Liaison — Bentley Infrastructure Cloud (BIC)

Be the glue between Platform’s low-level, broadly reusable APIs and BIC as the data platform for designing, building, and operating infrastructure.

2) Platform Liaison — Integration & Interoperability (Cross-Portfolio)

Be the glue between Platform’s core APIs and the vision of connected digital twins across Bentley’s product portfolio, spanning classic desktop products (e.g., MicroStation), next-gen applications (e.g., OpenSite+), and cloud platforms (Infrastructure Cloud, iTwin, Cesium).

3) Platform Liaison — Next-Gen iTwin-Native, Cloud-Connected, AI-Powered Products

Be the glue between Platform’s low-level APIs and Bentley’s next-generation infrastructure design and concurrent editing applications, including cloud-connected and AI-enabled product experiences.

What “Principal” Means Here

At Principal level, we’re hiring someone who can stabilize and elevate, not “grow into it.”

We expect you to already demonstrate a repeatable pattern of:

  • Owning strategic customer outcomes in similar roles (not a first-time stretch)
  • Managing multi-year engagements with multiple senior stakeholders
  • Driving cross-org alignment across several internal product & engineering teams
  • Leading executive conversations (C‑suite/VP), including QBRs, steering committees, and escalations
  • Making and driving hard tradeoffs—not just socializing options
  • Building a repeatable operating system (cadence, metrics, governance)
  • Operating independently with low support needs, elevating the teams around you

Responsibilities

This role is intentionally one part Product Management and one part Technical Business Development.

Strategic Ownership & Customer Outcomes

  • Serve as the single-threaded owner for strategic first‑party customer success with Platform
  • Own outcomes: adoption, value delivery, measurable impact, and multi-year expansion
  • Develop and execute a multi-year engagement plan: goals → plan → governance → metrics → outcomes

Platform Prioritization & Roadmap Influence

  • Translate first-party product goals into platform priorities and roadmap influence
  • Turn domain needs into actionable platform requirements, guiding sequencing and tradeoffs
  • Provide input on the segmentation of capabilities between Platform and first-party products by assessing:
  • potential for broad third‑party adoption
  • fit within the deeper layers of Bentley’s tech stack

Alignment, Orchestration & Decision Leadership

  • Facilitate alignment among diverging inputs, helping teams converge on strong, bought-in decisions
  • Drive decisions through conflict, ambiguity, and competing priorities—with spine and structure
  • Lead through influence: guide stakeholders toward shared outcomes without relying on hierarchy

Technical Credibility & Collaboration

  • Earn engineering trust via technical fluency and clarity on system-level implications
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering experts; bring the right people together at the right time
  • Promote a culture of openness, collaboration, authenticity, transparency

Operating Cadence & Governance

  • Build a repeatable engagement model:
  • recurring executive touchpoints (e.g., QBRs, steering committees)
  • decision forums
  • success metrics and health indicators
  • escalation paths and accountability mechanisms

Qualifications (Required)

  • 10+ years in product management and/or business development, preferably with highly technical software
  • Proven track record of significant and sustained long-term customer/partner success
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and align cross-functional engineering + product + executive stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to operate from engineers to VPs/C‑suite
  • Strong prioritization mindset; continuously tests priorities against customer needs, strategy, and objectives
  • Comfortable with travel and collaborating across time zones on a global team
  • Ability to perform work while sitting/standing at will on a computer (or related physical requirements)

Preferred

  • Experience in AEC (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) or adjacent domains
  • Familiarity with platform products, APIs, interoperability, cloud platforms, data platforms, and/or digital twin ecosystems
  • Experience supporting open standards/open source ecosystems or developer platforms

Why This Role / Why Bentley

If you thrive at the intersection of platform strategy, technical credibility, and executive stakeholder orchestration, this is a high-impact role with broad leverage. You will directly influence how Bentley’s platform enables first-party success—and how those lessons scale to the ecosystem.
