Principal Electrical Designer
Pay Range: $100,000– $140,000
Location: Houston, TX (100% Onsite)
Employment Type: Long‑Term Contract
Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizen

Position Overview
The Principal Electrical Designer provides advanced technical expertise and hands‑on design support for complex electrical scope on large EPC projects. This role focuses heavily on 3D modeling, design calculations, and interdisciplinary coordination, while supporting design supervisors and engineers within a collaborative, fast‑paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Create and review 3D electrical models of moderate to advanced complexity using Smart 3D
Prepare advanced 2D CAD drawings in accordance with project standards
Perform detailed electrical design calculations including:
Lighting, raceway sizing, wire sizing, and voltage drop
Cable pulling, conduit fill, and tray sizing
Panelboard, breaker, and junction box sizing
Apply industry codes, standards, and company design practices
Review drawings and vendor documentation for compliance and resolve discrepancies
Perform bulk material take‑offs and quantity tabulations
Participate in interdisciplinary 3D model reviews
Provide field assistance and support during execution phases
Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and other design disciplines
Basic Qualifications
Accredited two‑year technical degree OR a combination of education and experience totaling 15 years
Strong communication skills with the ability to work across disciplines
Proven attention to detail and ability to meet project schedules
Practical field experience in industrial environments
Knowledge of material availability and cost considerations
Intermediate proficiency with standard computer applications (email, spreadsheets, documentation)
Required Experience
U.S. Citizenship required
Hands‑on experience with Smart 3D (SmartPlant 3D)
Experience producing 2D AutoCAD electrical drawings
Knowledge of Smart Electrical (preferred, not required)
Strong understanding of electrical design requirements, including:
Grounding/earthing
Lighting and small power
Motors and panels
Conduit sizing and fill
Hazardous area classifications (Class/Division or Zone)
Work Environment & Schedule
100% onsite role in Houston (Eldridge location)
9x80 work schedule with some flexibility for early start times
Day‑one onboarding, training, and badging provided
Collaborative team environment with engineers and designers working side‑by‑side
Project Details
Long‑term project starting in FEED and progressing into detailed design
Industrial EPC environment
Nuclear/uranium experience is a plus, but not required
Stable workload with immediate design needs
