The Cypress of Hilton Head's Preston Health Center Skilled Nursing Department is actively seeking a hospitality-focused Director of Nursing.

Position Summary: Plans, coordinates, and directs the Nursing staff, ensuring that the system of care meets all Federal, State, and local regulations. Has 24-hour responsibility for nursing care of all residents through the performance of the Nursing personnel.
Responsible for providing a system of care for residents in a manner and environment that promotes maintenance and enhancement of each resident's quality of life and provides dignity and respect in full recognition of each resident's individuality.
Establishes policies, procedures, objectives and work performance standards while directing the Nursing personnel in a manner which ensures quality resident care.

Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and direct all the functions of the Nursing Department.
- Establish yearly budget and maintain it within acceptable variance limits.
- Interview, hire, discipline, and terminate employees according to facility policies.
- Provide training and supervision to all Nursing Staff.
- Ensure performance evaluations are completed for members of the Nursing staff in a timely manner.
- Develop, implement, and enforce all policies and procedures for nursing and personal care of residents to ensure the safety of staff, residents and visitors.
- Maintain and enforce proper infection control practices within the Health Center.
- Ensure adequate department staffing and work with Staffing Coordinator to monitor work schedules.
- Schedule and conduct daily rounds.
- Coordinate resident care programs to include interdisciplinary assessment and resident care planning teams, restorative care program, and other programs necessary to ensure optimal care.
- Act in the absence of the Administrator.
- Coordinate Utilization Review.
- Maintain attendance information for staff members and ensures compliance with attendance policy.
- Act as liaison with the Pharmacy ensuring appropriate handling, dispensing, and destruction of medication.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local codes, laws, and regulations governing the facility.
- Complies with The Cypress Code of Conduct in all aspects of job including participation in training.
- Instructs and documents training of staff in policy and procedures pertinent to their individual department.
- Takes appropriate precautions to avoid job related injuries and complies with injury reporting guidelines.
- Actively participates in safety programs and complies with The Cypress Club policies and procedures.
- Looks for ways to continuously improve safety for members, staff and visitors.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Prepare schedules and staffing assignments and ensure staff functions in accordance with their job descriptions.
- Ensure resident rights and requests are honored.
- Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the Health Center, making recommendations for repairs, painting, refurbishing, etc. as needed.
- Participate in Quality Assurance, Safety, Infection Control, Utilization, and other committees as required.
- Work with Pharmacy consultant to ensure the appropriate handling, dispensing, and destruction of medications.
- Provide reports/recommendations to the Administrator regarding the Nursing Department.
- Meet with other department directors to coordinate interdepartmental functions and to anticipate and solve potential areas of concern.
- In cooperation with the Social Worker, review all admission inquiries for appropriateness according to admission criteria.
- Ensure all licensure requirements are maintained for all staff members.
- Submit a yearly departmental plan focusing on goals for the coming year to the Administrator.
- Approve all overtime for staff.
- Maintain all required records for the Nursing Department
- Regularly evaluate the purchasing activities of the Nursing Department through monitoring prices and utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Provide a safe working environment for staff members, promptly reporting any accidents and implement corrective and preventive action.
- Conduct tours of the facility for prospective residents as needed.
- Meet with new residents upon admission to the Health Center.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements: Graduate of an approved school of Nursing. BSN preferred.
Licensure/Certification: South Carolina RN license in good standing required.
Additional Qualifications: Experience in a geriatric setting preferred; knowledge of rules and regulations governing long-term care facilities required.
Security Requirements: The Director of Nursing may be required and allowed to electronically view or access confidential patient information. The Director of Nursing will also be allowed to view and share patient information accessible otherwise in regard to patient care.
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a health care setting required. Good listening skills required.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills.
- Must be able to work independently and be self-directed.
- MDS knowledge and knowledge of quality indicators, State Surveys preferred. Computer skills preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to move throughout the facility promptly, especially in emergency situations. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and up to 150 lbs. with the assistance of one. Must be able to stoop, bend, and reach; must be able to push and pull up to 150 lbs. in a wheelchair; good visual and hearing acuity required; good verbal communication skills required. Must be able to walk or stand for up to 80% of the workday. Must be free of communicable disease; may be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV. May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.
