Ministry Area Purpose:

The Westwood Preschool exists to provide opportunities for children to learn and grow socially, emotionally, spiritually, mentally, and physically in God’s grace, spilled out to them through people and programs that will foster and nurture God’s love for them.


Role:

Lead Teacher: Plan, prepare and implement the preschool curriculum objectives established in the Westwood Preschool Operations Manual.

Assistant Teacher: To assist in implementing the preschool curriculum objectives established in the Westwood Preschool Operations Manual.


Responsibilities:

Lead Teacher:

· Provide activities to nurture the spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical

· needs of preschool-aged children

· Establish and maintain standards of child behavior appropriate to preschool children to achieve a positive learning environment

· Assist children with self-help skill development including: coats, bags, toileting, etc.

· Assist children and parents in car line during arrival and departure

· Follow prepared lesson plans and instructional materials as part of a planned learning

· experience for preschool students

· Supervise Assistant Teacher


Assistant Teacher:

· Assist in providing activities to nurture the spiritual, emotional, social, cognitive, and physical needs of preschool-aged children

· Prepare and clean up snack for the classroom

· Assist children with self-help skill development including: coats, bags, toileting, etc.

· Assist children and parents in car line during arrival and departure and take attendance as students arrive

· Establish and maintain standards of child behavior appropriate for children to achieve a positive learning environment

· Assist in facilitating developmentally appropriate learning experiences for preschool children


Lead and Assistant Teacher

· Provide constant and consistent supervision of the children

· Maintain professional competence through participation in educational staff development and/or in-service activities

· Carry out other responsibilities as assigned by the Preschool Director

Requirements

Lead Teacher

· Meet Preschool teaching qualifications set by State of Minnesota; B.S. in education is preferred

· 3+ years teaching experience in early childhood


Assistant Teacher

· Experience working with preschool-aged children

· Two or more years of experience as an early childhood instructional assistant or student intern, preferred

· Meet preschool teaching qualifications set by the State of Minnesota, preferred

· Two years or more of post-secondary education, preferably in child development, elementary education, or family studies, preferred


Lead and Assistant Teacher

· Someone who lives a life that honors God in heart, actions, and relationships, with the goal of becoming more like Jesus

· Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and church community

· Knowledge of and the capacity to provide engaging preschool activities and experiences for children in which they will grow spiritually, emotionally, socially, cognitively, and physically

· Proficient with Microsoft Office tools

· Ability to handle confidential information professionally

· Ability to relate to other Westwood staff and church attenders at large

· Endorse and support Westwood’s Statement of Faith
