Job Summary:

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Pre- and Post-Operative Nurse provides comprehensive care to patients undergoing minimally invasive, image-guided procedures. This nurse is responsible for assessment, preparation, education, and recovery of patients before and after interventional procedures, ensuring safety, comfort, and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Operative Duties:

  • Perform thorough nursing assessments and review medical histories.
  • Confirm consent, verify procedure details, allergies, NPO status, and lab results.
  • Start IV lines, draw labs, and administer pre-procedure medications.
  • Educate patients and families about procedures, expectations, and aftercare.
  • Communicate patient needs and findings to the IR team and anesthesia providers.
  • Ensure timely coordination and patient readiness for procedures.

Post-Operative Duties:

  • Receive and monitor patients recovering from conscious sedation, anesthesia, or contrast-related interventions.
  • Assess vital signs, pain, bleeding, and procedural sites regularly.
  • Administer post-procedure medications and manage any complications under protocol.
  • Educate patients and families on post-discharge instructions and follow-up care.
  • Document all care provided in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Communicate with referring providers, case management, and recovery units as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current and valid RN license in Utah.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required.
  • 2+ years of experience in critical care, PACU, IR, or procedural nursing strongly preferred.
  • Excellent IV skills and knowledge of sedation recovery protocols.
  • EMR proficiency (EPIC or other system).
