The Educator Preparation & Licensure Department at Springfield College seeks applicants for part-time practicum program supervisors to work with teacher candidates pursuing licensure in early childhood, elementary, moderate disabilities education, secondary History, English, and Math. Program supervisors will supervise teacher candidates in Massachusetts completing their 14-15 week practicum during the fall and or spring semesters. Travel to practicum sites/schools is required for teacher observations. All program supervisors are required to attend one full day in-person training session during their first semester. On-going support and training will be provided on a regular basis.
The Program Supervisors roles and responsibilities include:
- Use the DESE CAP online platform to complete all practicum evaluations including a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 observations, formative and summative evaluations.
- Read and respond to practicum students’ daily journal entries.
- Provide mentoring, coaching, and targeted feedback aligned to the Professional Standards for Teachers by evaluating students’ performance on the CAP Essential Elements.
- Provide targeted feedback and assign grades for all written practicum assignments to support the teacher candidate in developing their teaching skills and successfully completing their practicum.
- Communicate regularly with supervising practitioners in regards to the students’ progress, assignments, evaluations, and observations.
A Program Supervisor serves as the liaison between the practicum placement and Sponsoring Organization and should be able to:
- Collaborate with and support the Supervising Practitioner in meeting the Sponsoring Organization’s expectations;
- Support candidates to make explicit connections between coursework and fieldwork;
- Provide candidates with high-quality feedback and evaluation that prepares them to be effective, anti-racist, and culturally and linguistically sustaining educators;
- Effectively and equitably support candidates of all races, ethnicities, identity groups, and backgrounds.
Compensation for Program Supervisor Adjunct faculty is as follows:
- Compensation for Program Supervisors with fewer than 3 years of experience is $940 per practicum student supervised.
- Compensation for Program Supervisors with three or more years of supervision experience is $1171 per practicum student supervised.
- Master's degree preferred
- Current (or recently current) Massachusetts license in either early childhood, elementary education, or moderate disabilities required.
- Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in a K-12 setting
- Practicum supervision with CAP experience preferred.
- Must attend all mandatory training (1 in-person full day training per semester)
- Must be available to conduct supervision of teacher candidates during typical daytime school hours.
- Knowledge of Google Drive/Suite is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
