Power BI/Fabric Developer
Contract Opportunity with a Major Financial Services Firm
Location: Hybrid – Newark, NJ (3 days/week onsite)
Employment Type: W2 Only (No Corp-to-Corp)
Overview
We are looking for a Developer with strong Power BI, SQL, and Microsoft Fabric experience to support data-driven initiatives within a large financial services environment. This role will work closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to define requirements, support solution design, and ensure high-quality delivery.
Responsibilities
• Define and document functional requirements aligned with business needs
• Partner with lead developers and architects on technical design and solution approach
• Develop Functional Specification Documents (FSD), Technical Specifications, and Requirements Traceability Matrices
• Translate business, scientific, and engineering requirements into clear, logical statements
• Research and evaluate alternative solutions, recommending efficient and cost-effective approaches
• Collaborate with development, operations, and support teams throughout the SDLC
• Design and execute detailed system testing plans to ensure accuracy and quality of deliverables
• Create charts, tables, and diagrams to support analysis and problem-solving
• Analyze existing systems, identify logic gaps, and recommend improvements
Required Skills
• Strong experience with Power BI (dashboarding, reporting, data visualization)
• Advanced SQL skills for data analysis and querying
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric or modern data platforms
• Proven experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements
• Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile methodologies
• Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in financial services or insurance environments
• Familiarity with data modeling and data architecture concepts
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale data or reporting initiatives
