JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Department of Ophthalmology seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar to conduct mentored research focused on understanding mechanisms that contribute to glaucoma-related optic nerve/retinal injury and developing translational approaches to assess and preserve visual function. This environment supports interdisciplinary collaboration spanning vision science, quantitative imaging, and computational methods, consistent with institute-wide efforts in glaucoma research and AI-enabled approaches to ocular disease assessment. Under the direction of research faculty in ophthalmology, this position works to better understand the pathology of retinal degenerative diseases using in-vitro and in-vivo models. This is completed through the analysis of tissue structure, the generation of new databases, and the mining of existing databases.

1. Implements rigorous research documentation practices (research records, data provenance, reproducibility) and complies with all required UT Health Science Center and federal research standards (e.g., responsible conduct, safety, privacy, and other required training).
2. Acquires, curates, and analyzes ophthalmic data (e.g., OCT and fundus-based datasets) and contributes to quantitative or computational imaging workflows aligned with lab/institute priorities.
3. Performs database generation and mining of existing databases.
4. Designs, executes, and documents experiments related to glaucoma mechanisms, optic nerve/retinal outcomes, and quantification of functional and structural measures relevant to disease progression.
5. Prepares tissue samples for analysis.
6. Prepares manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations, and presents work at lab meetings and professional conferences as appropriate.
7. Contributes to proposal development, progress reporting, and grant-related scholarly products as needed.
8. Mentors students and/or junior trainees when appropriate to the project and training plan.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
