Job Summary and Responsibilities

Engages in laboratory, translational, or clinical research underthe direction and guidance of a faculty member, developing skills necessary for success as an independent investigator.

Responsibillities Include:
Aspires to excellence in work quality and quantity. Shows growth technically and intellectually. Attains research goals.
Contributes to mentor-directed research.
Develops skills in a research and/or clinical specialty. Demonstrates capabilities to produce quality original research or clinical care.
Demonstrates potential to launch an extramurally-funded research program.
Brings added value to the collective skill set in the mentor's group.
Develops problem solving skills in technical and conceptual components of project execution.
Learns to be astute and self-critical in project design, data analysis, and results interpretation.
Develops well-defined objectives
Produces material for publication and/or grant applications.
Contributes to teaching and guidance of more junior trainees
Maintains and expands knowledge on general advances in science and medicine and on progress in his/her specific field.
Attends and actively participates as a discussant at seminar series presentations and at regional/national scientific/clinical meetings, and presents work results and journal club articles in the mentor's research setting.


Job Requirements

Education

Ph.D., post-baccalaureate M.D. or D.Sc. degree or equivalent in a relevant field of endeavor upon hire

Laboratory or clinical research at the post-baccalaureate level with an interest in a faculty member's line of study Required

Beyond minimum required, experience writing research reports concerning own work and familiarity with a biomedical discipline
