Department & Position Information:

The Political Science department, housed within the Business, Communication Studies, and Social Sciences division, offers transfer-level courses such as Introduction to Political Science and Introduction to U.S. Government, as well as courses in International Relations and Foreign Policy. This position requires teaching hybrid, on-campus classes each quarter (Fall, Winter, and Spring) with a 2/3 instructional load, in addition to assigned non-instructional duties.


The Instructor will develop and provide a comprehensive syllabus outlining course objectives; deliver well-organized, engaging instruction aligned with the syllabus; and foster students’ critical thinking, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Responsibilities also include providing timely feedback on student academic progress, maintaining accurate academic records, and demonstrating thorough knowledge of college policies.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide and support classroom instruction for the Political Science Program

  • Meet with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues

  • Stay current in subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops

  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate

  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives

  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning

  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning with the limits of the resources provided

Required Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in Political Science or closely related field of study
  • Teaching experience in higher education

Knowledge Of

  • Current applicable trends, developments, and research

  • Microsoft Office applications, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technology (ex. ctcLink, Canvas, Starfish, etc.)

  • Political Science at a wide range of levels

Skill In

  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Political Science

  • Experience with teaching and developing coursework online

  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness

  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College

  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities

  • Developing/modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently

  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators, and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

Physical Work Environment

The College offers both in-person and online services, with the option of some assignments to be completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom/office space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment.


Terms Of Employment/Salary

  • Pro-Rata 80% of full-time load, non-tenure-track academic position

  • 172-day annual contract beginning September 17, 2026

  • Salary placement determined by the number of qualifying years of teaching/work experience combined with the level of the related degree attained at an accredited institution
