Grambling State University is seeking to hire a full-time Police Sergeant.
Three years of law enforcement experience.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. here.Job Duties:
- Supervises daily activities and plans work assignments of subordinate Campus Police Officers. Develops or assists in the development of training of new Police Officers, ensuring that all officers receive their annual training hours as mandated by P.O.S.T. and that their annual firearms training and range time is up to date. Reviews and approves incident reports, timesheets, and payroll information for Campus Police Officers. Monitors the activities of personnel to ensure compliance with Grambling State University Police Department policy manual and department procedures. Supervises police officers in performance of regularly assigned patrols and incident investigations; prepares shift notices and assignments; conducts pre-hire evaluations of prospective police officer candidates; conducts performance evaluations; makes recommendations in matters concerning employee discipline and retention
- Enforces state laws, rules and regulations governing safety and security on Grambling State University Campus and at college events and ensures compliance with CLERY Act related requirements
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, as necessary, Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities. Check subordinates Police Reports Discipline Subordinates. Conducts Daily Roll Call. Assists with the inspection and maintenance of fire alarms, security systems and fire extinguishers. Responds to fires, natural disasters or other hazardous events; Coordinates disaster response or crisis management activities such as, special needs programs and evacuation. Maintains and requests supplies and equipment. Maintains Louisiana Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) certification Effect Arrests. Work ALL University main events i.e.- graduation, GSU home games, homecoming etc. Stay late or come in from home in emergencies
- Reviews police documentation including incident and accident reports and daily logs for accuracy and compliance with criminal, motor vehicle, and traffic laws and with university regulations
- Assists commanders in establishing procedures; makes recommendations regarding improvements or changes in department operations
- Pursuing and apprehending fleeing suspects (climbing fences or walls, jumping ditches, running up to several blocks, etc.) Escorting prisoners to police station and having law violators booked on charges
- Conducts accident and crime investigations and prepares detailed reports, including State Motor Vehicle Accident Reports and State Uniform Incident Reports. Provides public assistance, escorts, first aid, and vehicle jump-starts. Processes evidence, prepares court cases, and provides legal testimony. Conducts inspections of police personnel and equipment; issues and accounts for police equipment
- Receives and prepares reports relative to complaints about shift personnel. Represents the department at community and business meetings
- Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Compensation: The Police Sergeant position offers a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $50,648.00 annually. This is the minimum compensation that may be offered. The salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
