The City of Fairfield is announcing that a Civil Service exam will be given through the National Testing Network and will be used as the initial step to establish an Eligibility List for the position of Police Officer. All testing with the National Testing Network (NTN) must be completed by the application closing date. The exam provided by the National Testing Network will be used as the civil service exam.

Qualifications include: U.S. Citizen; high school diploma/GED (Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and/or State of Ohio Basic Peace Officer Training Certificate preferred); valid Driver’s license; minimum age 21 at the time of the exam and not eligible for original appointment to Fairfield Police Department on or after 35th birthdayunless you have prior service in the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund or prior service as a Law Enforcement Officer which is eligible for service credit transfer to OP&F.
In accordance with the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Officers shall reside within Butler County or any contiguous county in the State of Ohio, (i.e., Preble County, Montgomery County, Warren County, and Hamilton County) as well as in Clermont County, Ohio, Dearborn County, Indiana, Franklin County, Indiana, or Union County Indiana.
Those who have already completed the Academy and are eligible to become a certified peace officer in the State of Ohio, prior to their date of hire, are eligible to receive a signing bonus.The $5,000 signing bonus will be paid upon successful completion of the probationary period. Proof of completion of the Academy and certification from OPOTA that they are eligible to become a certified peace officer in the State of Ohio will be required if hired. After receiving the signing bonus, the employee will be required to continue his/her employment within the City of Fairfield for two (2) years from the end of the probationary period.
Those who receive an overall passing score and a passing score in all sections of the test must subsequently pass the following to be eligible for appointment: physical agility test; CVSA; medical physical (including drug screen) and psychological exam; background check.
