Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description

We are seeking a Controls Engineer to support automation projects within material handling systems and robotic cells. This role will focus heavily on Allen‑Bradley PLC programming, working on existing codebases rather than building programs from the ground up. The engineer will collaborate cross‑functionally with mechanical teams and play an active role throughout the full project lifecycle—from development through installation and commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Modify, troubleshoot, and enhance Allen‑Bradley PLC programs for material handling and robotic automation systems.
  • Support automation development for robotic cells, with a strong emphasis on Fanuc robotics.
  • Review, understand, and integrate into existing PLC and robot code written by other engineers.
  • Participate in project progress meetings and communicate status, risks, and updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers and technicians to ensure system integration and performance.
  • Support projects from initial build through on‑site installation and commissioning as needed.
Essential Skills
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience programming with Allen‑Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience supporting material handling systems and/or robotic automation projects.
  • Experience working with Fanuc robots.
  • Ability to quickly understand and work within complex, existing control systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to contribute effectively in technical and project review meetings.
  • Comfortable collaborating with mechanical engineering teams.
  • Adaptable and confident stepping into programs developed by others.
  • Practical, hands‑on troubleshooting mindset.
Work Environment

This role will have the opportunity to be hybrid after first earning trust from the lead controls engineer. Initial assignment will support a project based out of Holland, MI, continuing through installation in Warren, MI. The main headquarters is a newer facility featuring both office space and an on‑site warehouse environment. The culture is supportive and team-oriented, with a relaxed environment among the Controls team.
