Job Duties:
The City of Virginia Beach is recruiting for a Planner I/II position to support the Planning Commission, which is an 11 member body appointed by the City Council to review land use and zoning matters in Virginia Beach.

Duties of the position may include, but are not limited to:

Minimum Requirements:
Planner I MINIMUMS: Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Architecture, Political Science or related
field or four (4) years of experience utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such
positions as Planner or Landscape Architect.
Planner II MINIMUMS: Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Architecture, Political Science or related field and two (2) years of experience utilizing the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with such positions as Planner or Landscape Architect OR any
combination of related education (above high school level) and years of experience equivalent to six (6) years.
Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
-Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban/Regional Planning or related field.
-Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a customer service focus.
-Experience in municipal government directly with appointed boards and commissions.
-Experience reviewing and evaluating site layout/design.
-Experience with meeting facilitation and public presentations.
-Experience negotiating/managing development projects.
