Job Title: Pipelayer

Location: Sterling, VA (projects throughout Northern Virginia)

Pay: $24-28/hour

Overview

We are seeking a dependable and skilled Pipelayer to join our underground utility construction team based out of Sterling, VA. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in precise work, understands trench safety, and enjoys working outdoors on active construction sites.

You’ll be a key part of our field operations, supporting trenching, pipe installation, and stormwater management for a variety of civil construction projects across Northern Virginia. Note: This role requires travel to project sites throughout Northern Virginia and comfort working 50–60 hours per week, including overtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Excavate and prepare ditches and trenches for pipe installation.
  • Lay pipe accurately to grade and specification.
  • Backfill and compact excavations once installation is complete.
  • Shovel, rake, and assist with asphalt work as needed.
  • Compact and level earth using hand tools and pneumatic tampers.
  • Set up and use laser levels to ensure accurate pipe alignment and grade.
  • Assist with stormwater system installation and maintenance.
  • Support excavation and pipe installation by operating equipment when required.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to trenching, excavation, and jobsite operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project completion.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 1–2+ years of experience in civil or underground utility construction.
  • Previous experience with pipe laying and trench digging.
  • Knowledge of trench safety and proper excavation practices.
  • Ability to use hand tools such as picks, shovels, rakes, and pneumatic tampers.
  • Experience setting up and working with laser levels.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor in active construction environments.
  • Willingness to travel to jobsites across Northern Virginia and work overtime.

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
  • Hours: 50–60 hours per week; must be comfortable with overtime
  • Location: Based in Sterling, VA, with projects throughout Northern Virginia
  • Environment: Outdoor construction sites with exposure to excavation activities, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
