Staff Counsel for CURE Auto Insurance has additional supervisory openings resulting from our launch and expansion into the Michigan market, and we are looking to add an experienced Supervising PIP Defense Attorney with 10+ years of civil litigation experience in handling no-fault litigation.  This experience should include taking/defending depositions, extensive negotiation proficiency, trying cases to verdict, and supervising other attorney staff. The Supervising PIP Defense Attorney will be responsible for supervising 10+ staff attorneys within the PIP department of the law firm. The Supervising PIP Defense Attorney will oversee the onboarding of staff attorneys as well as provide ongoing performance coaching and mentorship to ensure consistent adherence to, and execution of, the firm's policies and procedures. All candidates must possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding written and oral advocacy skills, and strong software/technological skills, including competency in Word, Outlook and Westlaw. Ideal candidates will be well organized, detail-oriented, and able to independently manage a caseload where work is time sensitive.

Qualifications



  • 10+ years of experience handling PIP litigation from inception to conclusion. Additional handling of first-party and third-party claims for auto carriers a plus
  • Prior supervision of attorneys for 2+ years preferred 
  • Ability to take full responsibility for files
  • Ability to audit files of other PIP attorneys under direct supervision to ensure accurate and thorough execution of litigation strategy 
  • Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience
  • Experience in presenting and cross-examining lay and expert witnesses
  • Experience directing support staff on clerical and administrative matters related to litigation handling
  • Experience as first chair trial attorney 
  • Experience working in a paperless electronic environment
  • Strong automation/technological skills for lawsuit handling and courtroom presentation
  • Preferred qualification is the handling of Insurance defense matters

 


Additional Information:



  • Must have a law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
  • Must have an active law license to practice in Michigan and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan



Office Location: Located in Southfield, MI; We cover jurisdictions throughout the state of Michigan.


 


Starting Salary Range:  $155,000 - $165,000 annually based on experience, with potential for additional bonuses depending on performance.


 


Operating Model: Current hybrid schedule is 4 days in office and 1 day remote, with potential for additional remote flexibility depending on performance.
