Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be a creative, dynamic, and experienced physical education teacher. The candidate will possess a strong knowledge of health and wellness related activities to teach grades K through 12 including experience in implementing developmentally appropriate activities that keep students active and encourage physical fitness. They shall inspire a passion for physical activity and strategically utilize the campus, buildings and resources for creative physical education classes and curriculum.


The candidate will foster a student-centered, 21st century classroom environment where all students are encouraged to offer up their ideas and to welcome the notion that learning extends beyond the classroom. In keeping with the mission of the school, the successful candidate will support individual students so they thrive academically.


The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a passionate enthusiasm for their craft
  • Be a thought-leader in the field of teaching physical education, be well-informed of the latest techniques and topics in physical education instruction and skillful in implementing those techniques and topics
  • Collaborate with the physical education department, the learning services team, other faculty groups, and administrators to plan and implement departmental and school-wide goals
  • Coach middle or upper school after school interscholastic sports for all three seasons (fall, winter and spring)
  • Work closely with parents, teachers, colleagues and division heads to support the development and well-being of students
  • Possess strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and organizational skills


In addition to teaching, full-time faculty members may serve as student advisors, club mentors, and contribute in other significant ways to the work of the community. Schools are especially interested in candidates with coaching experience and/or those who can demonstrate initiative and serve as coaches in a variety of significant ways outside of the classroom. Other supervisory responsibilities and duties are shared among faculty members.


Physical Education Teacher Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, exercise science and/or education is preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of previous K-12 teaching experience.
  • No teaching license or credential is required.
  • Strong interpersonal as well as written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, dependable, and eager to contribute to the school community.
