Summary:
The pharmacy administrative intern position is a longitudinal experience that develops clinical, professional, leadership, and administrative skills while providing insight intopharmacy operational servicesand their impact on patient care.
This position includes a 10-week summer experience that integrates administrative responsibilities with clinical pharmacy practice in both the central pharmacy and emergency department. Throughout the academic year (fall, winter, and spring), the role continues with clinical pharmacy responsibilities, providing patient care in these settings
The internship will beledand conducted under the supervision of clinical pharmacy preceptors along with team leaders and managers within the Children’s Health pharmacy department.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to process improvement initiatives through data collection, analysis, and presentation of findings to pharmacy leadership
Collaborate with pharmacy leaders to conduct gap analyses andidentifyopportunities to improve medication-use processes
Engage in departmental initiatives to gain insight into employee engagement strategies and organizational leadership
Gain an understandingof projectmanagement,quality improvementtoolsandcommunication frameworksby observing andapplying thesetools withinmedication-usemanagement projectsand/orquality improvement projectsto enhance workflowsand patient safety
Develop professional, leadership, and interpersonal skills by observing interactionsand decision-making among pharmacy leadership to develop a growth mindset and apply effective strategies in a team and professional settings
Apply critical thinking and communication skills to evaluate team dynamics and support leadership decision-making
Develop a basic understanding of FTEs and schedule-making by observing pharmacyleadership and how they assess the need of FTEs
Collaborate with theclinical pharmacy team in preparing, compounding, anddispensing patient medicationsbyassistingwith medication ordersto ensure that the patient receives timely, safe,andappropriate treatment
Collectand reviewpatient medication information by performing a complete medication history toidentifythe patient’s current medication regimen and tomaintaincontinuity of care during hospitalization
Essential Credentials:
* Pharmacist Intern
* Basic Life Support
Work Experience:
* At least 1 year ofpreviouspharmacy or hospital experience Preferred
Education:
* Currently enrolled in an ACPE-approved college of pharmacy program Required
* 20-hour ACPE-accredited IV training course Preferred
* Pharmacy Immunization Certificate Preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
* Current Texas Pharmacist-Intern license Required
* Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course
*Requirements - 90 Days Required
