Job Title: Staff Pharmacist – Central Fill & Operations (Inpatient Behavioral Health)
Location: Oregon State Hospital | Salem, OR
Employment Type: Full-Time 5x8's no weekends required
Pay: $83/hr
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented, clinical-minded Pharmacist to join our Central Fill team. Unlike a traditional retail or acute care setting, our pharmacy serves a specialized inpatient psychiatric population. You will be the "engine room" of our facility—ensuring that life-changing medications reach our patients safely, accurately, and efficiently.
This role is perfect for a pharmacist who thrives on operational excellence, enjoys working with pharmacy automation (Carousels/ADCs), and wants to apply their clinical expertise to complex mental health medication management.
What You’ll Do
- Operational Excellence: Oversee the distribution of medications via our central pharmacy carousel system to peripheral Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs).
- Safety & Verification: Perform final product verification for daily restock batches, including bulk ADC fills and Patient-Specific Bins (PSB).
- Clinical Oversight: Interpret and review medication orders for appropriateness, with a sharp eye for therapeutic duplications and drug-drug interactions common in psychotropic therapy.
- Controlled Substance Management: Lead the charge in dispensing, monitoring, and auditing controlled substances to ensure 100% regulatory compliance.
- Consultation: Serve as a drug information resource for our interdisciplinary care teams, providing insights on admission/discharge medications and complex patient histories.
- Specialized Handling: Manage cold storage protocols for parenteral agents and vaccines.
Who You Are
- Technically Savvy: You aren't intimidated by pharmacy automation and look for ways to optimize workflow.
- Clinical Specialist: You have a strong interest in behavioral health and the nuances of psychopharmacology.
- Collaborative: You enjoy working closely with pharmacy technicians and fellow pharmacists to keep the operation running smoothly.
Qualifications
- Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or B.S. Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
- Licensure: Active Pharmacist license in good standing in the state of Oregon.
- Experience: 1+ years of experience in an inpatient or central fill setting preferred.
- Experience with Pharmacy Carousels and ADCs (Pyxis/Omnicell) is required.
- Strong clinical background in medication order review and drug-drug interaction screening.
- Skills: Proficiency in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
