Macy • Santee • South Sioux City “An Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer ” Nebraska Indian Community College Project Success Intern: PCR -Based Microorganism Detection & Water Quality Location: South Sioux City Campus and/or Macy Campus Dates: June 1, 2026 – August 25, 2026 Time Commitment: Equivalent to a 3 -credit capstone or senior research course (~180 hours) Schedule: Flexible; arranged with student and PI (must be between 8:30 AM –8:30 PM) Overview: This hands -on research internship offers students the opportunity to gain real -world laboratory and field experience focused on PCR -based microorganism detection and water quality assessment on reservation lands in Nebraska. Students will work closely with faculty on environmental and molecular biology research and contribute to meaningful community and scientific outcomes. What You’ll Do: • Participate in fieldwork and travel to Nebraska sites for sample collection • Learn molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, microbial growth) • Assist with water quality testing and daily laboratory activities • Analyze data and contribute to scientific reports and presentations Who Should Apply: • Full-time or half -time, degree- seeking student in good academic standing (2.0+ GPA, 67% completion rate) • Science -focused students preferred (Microbiology, Environmental Science, Organic Chemistry, or related fields) • Organized, reliable, and interested in research and environmental health • Prior lab experience is helpful but not required What You’ll Gain: • Hands -on experience with PCR, gel electrophoresis, and lab documentation • Skills in data analysis, scientific writing, and presentations • Understanding of how molecular biology applies to environmental and community health Supervisor: Md Eazul Haque Contact: ehaque@thenicc.edu | 608- 887-7967
