Clayton Services is searching for a Payroll Specialist to join a fast-growing organization with operations in Tampa, Florida. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing high-volume payroll processing, supporting project-based employees, and ensuring accuracy and compliance across all payroll functions.
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $85,000 - $90,000/year plus bonus

Payroll Specialist Responsibilities:
- Process payroll for a multi-state workforce, including a large population of hourly and project-based employees
- Review and validate timesheets, pay rates, and project allocations for accuracy and compliance
- Manage payroll-related reimbursements such as travel, per diem, and project expenses
- Ensure payroll data aligns with employment agreements and project requirements
- Maintain employee payroll records and ensure data integrity within payroll systems
- Collaborate with operations, HR, and finance teams to resolve discrepancies and support payroll functions
- Respond to employee and management payroll inquiries in a timely manner
- Assist with year-end payroll activities including W-2 processing and reconciliations
- Support internal and external audits by preparing payroll documentation as needed
- Ensure compliance with applicable wage laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Payroll Specialist Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and multi-state regulations
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis)
- Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact across departments
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Adaptable and comfortable with evolving processes and systems
- Team-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Payroll Specialist Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment
- Experience supporting hourly and project-based employees strongly preferred
- Experience with Paycom payroll systems preferred
- Experience with Replicon or similar timekeeping platforms preferred
- Industry experience in construction, energy, or field services is a plus
