Under the general supervision of a higher-level officer, this is intermediate payroll audit work involving the computing and verifying of data used in preparing weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for employees of the Government of the Virgin Islands (GVI).
Work is performed in accordance with established rules and regulations, but an employee is expected to use acquired training in applying appropriate laws to the various payroll situations. Work is reviewed for accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established procedures and proper protocols.
Ascertains that schedules of payment and other documents accompanying the time and attendance reports are accurate and correct.
Computes net and gross salary and leave data to record in formal payroll documents
Verifies computations made by fellow payroll audit clerks.
Checks payroll deductions and net earnings by totaling and comparing the various columns.
Files salary, leaves and other data in designated individual or other folders.
Records salary, deductions and other personnel transactions on individual record cards, and at quarterly or other designated intervals computes total deduction for report purposes.
Prepares individual income tax statements notifying employees of total earnings and total deductions made for tax purposes.
Performs other related work as required. High School Diploma or its equivalent from an accredited institution and four (4) years of clerical experience in general office work, or two (2) years of experience as a Payroll Audit Clerk I or in a similar position.

Guidelines include relevant laws, departmental policies governing payroll processing, established procedures, written instructions and regulatory documents, to ensure compliance and consistency.

The purpose of the work is to accurately compute payroll for the GVI. Work directly impacts the accuracy of employee compensation and the integrity of payroll records. Contacts are supervisors, other government employees, representatives from external agencies or departments.
