Under the immediate supervision of a higher-level officer, this is entry-level payroll audit work involving the computing and verifying of data used in preparing weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for employees of the Government of the Virgin Islands (GVI).
An employee in this class is responsible for verifying wage and salary earnings and leave accumulations to ensure accuracy in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
Ensures salary, wage, leave, and deductions are substituted by approved reports before using such data for computations.
Computes and checks leave, deductions, net and gross pay.
Stores electronic payroll records in secure digital directories using automated software, ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient access.
Records salary deductions and other data on individual record cards and prepares reports from them at designated intervals.
Prepares individual income tax statements notifying employees of total earnings and total deductions made for tax purposes.
Ensures that schedules of payments and other accompanying documents are accurate.

Guidance is available from both supervisors and experienced payroll coworkers. Employee is expected to follow established procedures, seek clarification as needed. Work is reviewed upon completion for accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to established procedures and proper protocols.
