Job Title: Paver Operator
Job Description

The Paver Operator operates a variety of paving and heavy construction equipment to support asphalt and concrete paving projects. This role is responsible for placing, leveling, and compacting materials according to project plans while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient job site. The position works closely with foremen and crew members to meet project timelines and may assist with general labor duties when not operating equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate paving equipment such as asphalt pavers, rollers, skid steers, loaders, and milling machines in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Assist with asphalt and concrete paving operations, including material placement, leveling, and compaction to meet project specifications.
  • Read and follow grade stakes, elevations, and project plans to ensure accurate paving and grading.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, including checking fluid levels, tires, and safety features, and complete basic maintenance as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with foremen and crew members to coordinate work and meet project schedules and deadlines.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized job site, including proper housekeeping and equipment staging.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines at all times while operating equipment and performing job tasks.
  • Assist with general labor duties, such as shoveling, raking, or site cleanup, when not operating equipment.
  • Monitor work quality and report any issues, hazards, or equipment concerns promptly to supervision.
Essential Skills
  • Experience operating paving or heavy construction equipment such as pavers, rollers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, and dozers.
  • Knowledge of asphalt and concrete paving processes, materials, and proper compaction techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret grade stakes, elevations, and basic project plans.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate grading, smooth finishes, and compliance with specifications.
  • High level of safety awareness and consistent adherence to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work long hours and overtime as needed to support project schedules.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Reliable transportation and strong, consistent attendance.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience specifically in asphalt paving operations is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with grading and construction equipment is an asset.
  • Familiarity with construction site practices and job site organization.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a crew and follow direction from foremen.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to assist with labor tasks as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based outdoors at construction and paving job sites in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather. Workdays are often extended, with 50+ hours per week and overtime common during peak seasons. The position involves operating heavy construction equipment such as asphalt pavers, rollers, skid steers, loaders, excavators, dozers, and other construction equipment on active job sites. The environment is physically demanding and requires frequent standing, walking on uneven surfaces, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing manual labor when needed. Safety is a core focus, and team members follow strict safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment while working in a fast-paced, production-oriented setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $82000.00 - $93000.00/yr.
