The Department of Public Safety and Police at Kutztown University invites applicants for full time Patrol Officer Trainee. The Patrol Officer trainee position is an entry-level position designed to identify new police recruits. This position will require employees to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper courses of action. While attending the Police Academy, the trainee is a full-time employee of Kutztown University.

This position will be tasked by completing a MOPETC certified Police Academy. Once finished at the academy, the recruit will provide basic police services as a Patrol Officer within the department and work with one of our field training officers. The employee will be released once the FTO program is successfully completed. Employees in this classification do exercise powers of arrest.

If the Patrol Officer Trainee resigns willingly during the academy training or within 4 years after successful completion of the academy, the officer must repay prorated costs incurred by the University.

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator license.
  • Must have a High School diploma, or equivalent diploma
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written skills.
  • Must understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • A college degree is an added value.

The salary for this position is determined by the POA Collective Bargaining Agreement. External applicants will be offered the minimum rate of pay for this position, which is currently $16.64 an hour.


This position may be eligible for a flexible hybrid work arrangement, permitting a combination of on-site and remote work, subject to applicable organizational policies, operational requirements, and supervisory approval.
