Position Summary:
The Patient Safety Analyst supports enterprise-wide initiatives to ensure the safe and effective use of the Expanse electronic health record (EHR) across 180+ hospitals. This role focuses on analyzing EHR-related patient safety events, leveraging advanced analytics and AI-driven tools to identify risks, detect patterns, and recommend proactive interventions. The analyst collaborates with clinical, informatics, and operational teams to strengthen safety culture and optimize EHR-enabled workflows during and after implementation.
Responsibilities:
Safety Data Analysis & AI Integration
- Collect, validate, and analyze EHR-related patient safety data, including incident reports, audit logs, and workflow metrics.
- Apply AI and machine learning tools to:
- Automate classification and prioritization of safety events.
- Detect emerging risk trends and latent safety threats.
- Predict high-risk workflows and recommend preventive strategies.
- Translate complex analytical findings into actionable insights for clinical and operational leaders.
Risk Assessment & Workflow Evaluation
- Conduct proactive assessments of EHR workflows to identify usability issues and safety vulnerabilities.
- Support facility-level evaluations through interviews, observations, and data-driven analysis.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to implement sustainable solutions that reduce harm and improve efficiency.
Reporting & Communication
- Develop dashboards and reports to monitor EHR-related safety performance.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to leadership, patient safety teams, and EHR governance committees.
- Disseminate best practices and lessons learned across the enterprise.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in process redesign initiatives to embed patient safety and high reliability principles into EHR workflows.
- Support change management strategies to ensure adoption of safety improvements.
Requirements:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Health Informatics, Data Analytics, or related field.
- Experience in patient safety, healthcare analytics, or EHR systems.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools for incident analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with Expanse EHR or other large-scale EHR implementations.
- Technical skills in Python, R, or similar for data analysis and predictive modeling.
- Knowledge of clinical workflows, risk management, and safety science principles.
- Certifications such as CPPS, CPHQ, or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
