Job Title: Pathology Research Assistant
Job Description

The Pathology Research Assistant provides technical and logistical support during preclinical testing. This role involves assisting with the planning and execution of various pathology tasks, including necropsy, tissue collection and management, histology processing, slide scanning, and pathology materials shipment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate necropsies and tissue collection logistics with the Pathologist and the Preclinical Research team.
  • Perform or assist with animal necropsies and tissue collection, including set-up and associated routine procedures.
  • Record data obtained in studies according to established procedures, ensuring that records and raw data are properly maintained.
  • Prepare identifying labels, photograph gross specimens, handle and manage collected tissue specimens, and ship to vendors as appropriate.
  • Assist with tissue trimming/grossing, embedding, sectioning using a microtome, and staining of glass slides.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and other instruments, ensuring their proper operation and maintenance.
  • Conduct inventory of pathology materials and coordinate shipment.
  • Prepare datasheets and forms, including necropsy records, trim records, inventory of pathology materials, and chain of custody forms.
  • Conduct quality control of procedures performed, including review of raw data and preparation of study materials to be archived.
  • Maintain the necropsy room clean and organized, inventory laboratory supplies and equipment, and replenish stock as needed.
  • Assist with review of SOPs in pathology processes and related equipment.
  • Assist in preparation of pathology reports, including preparing and formatting tables and QC data.
  • Digitally scan slides.
  • Assist with training of other associates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all guidelines related to Health, Safety, and Environmental practices.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with necropsy, preferably with large animal species.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or other closely related STEM field.
  • Experience with large animal necropsies.
  • Experience as a prosector.
  • Experience using slide scanner.
  • Experience working in a GLP regulated environment.
  • Experience using electronic data capture systems.
  • Experience working with large animals in a pathology and/or histology lab.
  • Ability to understand and precisely follow Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and proactive time management skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Data capture experience (nice to have).
  • Ability to gain additional experience with pre-clinical pathology studies.
Work Environment

This role requires onsite work five days a week in a laboratory, research, or veterinary setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Cincinnati, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
