This PRN Pathology Histotechnician role supports daily histology laboratory operations by processing and preparing patient tissue specimens for pathologist review. Responsibilities include tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, staining, slide preparation, quality control support, equipment maintenance, and maintaining specimen files. The position follows all departmental protocols, responds to emergencies as needed, and contributes to high‑quality, timely pathology services.
Previous experience with embedding and microtomy of biopsy specimens preferred.
Should be available to work the hours of 2:30 AM to 6:30 AM.

Position Summary:
Assists in the day-to-day operations of the laboratory with regard to histology specimen processing. Processes and prepares patient tissue according to department procedures using a wide range and depth of technical and specialized knowledge. Participates in laboratory operations as needed. Supports continuous improvement of laboratory services to ensure high quality and timely pathology for quality diagnosis.
Position Key Accountabilities:
1. Performs tissue processing, embedding in paraffin, and cutting, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides for interpretation by a pathologist.
2. Performs slide preparation according to SOP guidelines.
3. Assists with quality control standards in the laboratory.
4. Helps maintain blocks and/or slides files.
5. Maintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning or performing scheduled equipment and instrument maintenance / calibration / certifications, as required.
6. Complies with all departmental SOPs and adheres to all rules and protocols.
7. Responds to emergency situations.
8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
Minimum Education:
Associate’s degree.
Minimum Experience:
Six months of directly related experience.
Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
