Position OverviewAs a Surveyor at Kiewit, you will play an integral role in ensuring the success of large-scale civil infrastructure projects. With a strong focus on safety, precision, and efficiency, you will manage survey operations critical to the layout and control of construction activities. This hands-on role requires expertise in surveying technologies such as Trimble systems, GPS, and total stations, along with the ability to perform complex calculations for layout, volume, and material estimations. You will be responsible for conducting site investigations, verifying boundaries, tracking project progress, and ensuring compliance with design specifications. The ideal candidate will have a background in construction surveying, with a strong understanding of FAA regulations and experience using CAD software. You must be adaptable, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced field environments. A commitment to leadership, safety, and quality is essential to succeed in this role.
District OverviewKiewit Southwest District specializes in heavy civil, transportation and water projects. We operate primarily in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada and Utah. Southwest's projects include a wide range of infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, runways, terminals, transit systems, power plants, water treatment facilities, dams, canals, wastewater treatment plants and tunnels.
LocationThis position will be located in the Southwest area. Specifically in Idaho. ResponsibilitiesConduct topographic surveys to capture terrain, elevation, and drainage for site plans.
Verify property boundaries to ensure compliance and avoid disputes.
Map and locate utilities to prevent damage during construction.
Assess soil conditions to evaluate site suitability for construction.
Mark key site points using total stations and GPS.
Ensure construction aligns with design specifications to prevent costly rework.
Monitoring and Verification:
Track construction progress and ensure it aligns with design specs.
Conduct final "as-built" surveys to document completed work.
Perform volume calculations and material estimations for cost and resource management.
Use total stations, GPS, and drones for precise measurements and aerial surveys.Apply CAD software (e.g., Microstation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D) for survey plans.
Work with FAA data to monitor aviation activities and provide airspace management recommendations.
Qualifications
Experience with Trimble Business Center software preferred.
Survey/Engineering background preferred.
Familiarity with Microstation and/or AutoCAD (Civil 3D) is beneficial.
FAA knowledge in aviation safety, airspace management, and regulations preferred.
Willingness to work 50–60 hours per week in dynamic, field environments.
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction survey or related field.
Experience with Trimble systems or similar technologies preferred.
Strong understanding of geometry and algebra for layout calculations.
