Part-Time Trombone Adjunct

The music department is seeking to hire an adjunct trombone instructor for the 2026 -2027 school year. Primary duties would include teaching applied trombone lessons, and co-teaching brass classes including brass masterclass, brass technique seminar, and brass chamber music with other brass faculty. Other responsibilities include attending instrument-area juries at the end of the semester, collaborating on instrument-specific guest artist invitations, participating in spring auditions, and ongoing active recruitment of students. Adjunct instructors are expected to provide 16 lessons per semester to each student and maintain a presence on campus that is conducive to holding regularly
scheduled lessons and classes. The trombone studio typically includes 2-3 students.

  • A bachelor's degree in the appropriate arts discipline and/or relevant experience as a teaching artist with at least three (3) years of experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and interpersonal skills to teach high school students in a residential setting, who have strong artistic achievement and potential; and the ability to work with other arts educators and with diverse constituencies and cultures.
  • Must be able to perform and teach trombone and perform other departmental duties, instructional and otherwise. Instruction may include courses in music theory or music history, as well as orchestral conducting.

  • A master's or doctoral degree with at least five (5) years of teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
  • Recognized success as an educator, performer and scholar.
