The City of Alexandria is an independent city with no county affiliation and derives its governing authority from a Charter granted by the Virginia General Assembly. Virginia is a Dillon Rule state, allowing local governments only the authority expressly granted to them by the Virginia Constitution or by the Virginia General Assembly in the City Charter or in general law. City Council is the governing body, which formulates policies for the administration of the City. The mayor is chosen on a separate ballot and presides over sessions of the Council.

Part Time Recreation Leader III – John Adams (OSTP)
In pursuit of service excellence, the Part Time Recreation Leader III performs advanced-level recreation work. Recreation Leader III will act as a Site Supervisor at an Out of School Time Program location. The Recreation Leader III willplan, implement, organize and develop recreation leisure-based programs and activities inSports/ Cooperative Games, Academic Support, Civic Responsibility, Cultural Arts, STEAM Enrichment and field trips. An incumbent in this class will provide supervision to a small number of subordinate staff and volunteers. The Part Time Recreation Leader III should also be available to work various hours, Monday to Friday, School Year 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Summer 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and some evenings and weekends. Enthusiasm, flexibility, leadership, and excellent organization and communication skills are needed to be successful in this position.
The Part Time Recreation Leader III will execute an administrative need that meets high standards of excellence and have the support of and work under the direction of a Recreation Program Coordinator and Recreation Manager.

What You Should Bring
Each member of the team is accountable for the outstanding delivery of services to the community. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of programming and special event planning; knowledge of child development; ability to plan and direct program activities; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, stakeholders, and the public; ability to generate interest and participation in center activities with various age groups; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. The ability to work independently and use judgment within established procedures; experience preparing reports; ability to organize, ability to work with a variety of staff at all levels and to handle assignments across sections of the Recreation Services Division will ensure success in this role.
High School Diploma and three (3) years of related experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training.
Two-Year college degree; experience working independently and/or as a part of a team, Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills, good customer service skills, excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, good knowledge of computers, and good communication skills (written/ verbal). Prior leadership or supervisory experience (e.g., leading staff, volunteers, or interns)
This position requires successful completion of a criminal records background check, child abuse and child neglect screening and drug screening prior to employment.
