The Part-Time Interpreter/Captionist is a part-time position responsible to the Coordinator, Hearing Loss Services and Director, Disability Services.
Provision of real-time note-taking services in lecture and lab setting
Provision of transcription and copy-typing services as requested
Provision of AV closed captioning
Provision of test reading, and test proctoring services
Competencies Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to provide notetaker/captionist services for students with varying disabilities in a post-secondary educational environment
Knowledge and skills to operate a computer for basic office tasks
Willing to work flexible hours (including some evenings & weekends)
Possess independent and creative thinking, and initiative in seeing projects to completion
Evidence of strong organizational skills; excellent oral & written communication skills
Ability to meet goals and work effectively in a “team” environment
Must be able to self-regulate according to a daily schedule of assignments and implement problem solving within set boundaries
Must respect confidentiality and maintain courtesy in dealing with students, faculty, staff and visitors
Familiarity with disability accommodations preferred. Job Training (upon hiring) required
