  • Assists with recruitment and selection of lifeguard staff; helps screen applications to ensure proper qualifications and valid certifications.
  • Performs instructional and lifeguard duties as scheduled. Provides leadership, especially in emergency situations.
  • Orients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities; provides instructions in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, and maintenance related matters.
  • Assists with scheduling and assigning lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool area is maintained during operating hours.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure compliance with safety and health regulations, and keeps management informed of pool maintenance needs, including cleaning, chemical adjustments and repairs.
  • Observes performance of personnel engaged in lifeguarding and swimming instruction, and provides input in evaluating performance.
  • Handles complaints, questions, and concerns related to the pool within assigned scope of responsibility; notifies management as required.
  • Maintains records on condition of the pool, attendance, and other records and reports as directed.
  • Assists with the requisition and inventory of pool supplies and equipment.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all job performance requirements, including but not limited to attendance and tardiness standards.
  • Knowledge of policies, rules and regulations governing the use of GAC pool facilities.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool operations including sanitation, water chemistry, equipment maintenance, and safety.
  • Knowledge of basic methods and techniques of pool maintenance.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and application of lifesaving and first aid techniques.
  • Exceptional lifeguard and first aid/CPR skills.
  • Ability to schedule, monitor and review the work of others.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative to effectively lead and direct staff.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff and the general public.
  • Ability to recognize emergency and dangerous situations and react quickly and calmly.
  • Physical ability to perform work associated with the position.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Work takes place in an office environment and pool facility. Subject to equipment noise, working around moving parts and irritant chemicals. Exposed to extreme moisture and humidity. May be required to use protective clothing or gear. Requires flexibility in schedule, including nights, early morning and weekends.

EXPERIENCE

High School graduate and three years of lifeguarding experience, including one full year as a lifeguard for the Germantown Athletic Club.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS

Current ARC Lifeguard training, first aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required.
WSI, CPO or AFO certifications preferred.
