Raleigh Water is seeking a motivated individual to join our Maintenance team as a Part-Time Coatings Technician to support the department’s wastewater treatment plants and lift stations, including North Carolina’s only BioEnergy Recovery Project.The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

The incumbent will perform skilled and semi-skilled work related to surface preparation and application of protective coatings on structures and equipment at wastewater treatment plants and lift stations by performing the following duties:

  • Assists with surface preparation activities including cleaning, grinding, abrasive blasting, and washing of concrete and steel surfaces
  • Applies protective coatings, linings, and sealants to tanks, piping, structures, and equipment in accordance with specifications and manufacturer requirements
  • Assists with inspecting coated surfaces for defects and performing touch-up or repair work as directed
  • Safely operates and maintains coating application equipment, hand tools, and surface preparation tools
  • Follows established safety procedures, including confined space entry, fall protection, respiratory protection, and PPE requirements
  • Performs any other task in support of the Maintenance team

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and 1 to 3 years' experience in routine/minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical or related maintenance work

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted


Computer Skills:

  • Basic ability to use simple electronic devices or systems for communication and timekeeping is preferred


Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Other Qualifications:

  • Must have the ability to operate coating and surface preparation equipment such as spray rigs, grinders, pressure washers, and hand tools

  • Must be able to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces and varying weather conditions

  • Ability to follow all safety requirements associated with wastewater treatment facilities and industrial coating operations is required
