Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is seeking aPart-Time Certified Civil Process Server to serve warrants and execute civil court orders. This position offers a flexible schedule, allowing the selected candidate to set their own hours between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The role is part-time, with an expected workload of approximately 10 to 20 hours per week. Work hours may be arranged based on mutual agreement to meet both departmental needs and the candidate’s availability.

The Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server is responsible for the timely and accurate service of a wide range of legal documents, including court orders, notices, subpoenas, garnishments, property executions, commitments, show-cause orders, and protection orders, ensuring all actions comply with applicable laws and procedures. In this role, the Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server regularly interacts with individuals to deliver these documents in a professional and lawful manner, often in sensitive or high-risk situations, and is required to carry a firearm in accordance with agency policy. Additionally, the position serves as a key point of contact for the public, attorneys, businesses, and law enforcement agencies, providing clear and accurate information regarding civil papers and the civil process while maintaining a high standard of customer service and professionalism.

High school diploma or GED plus two years of work experience in a law enforcement environment. Must be a Certified Law Enforcement Officer and meet all of the requirements of the State of South Dakota to remain certified. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid driver's license and have a safe driving record. Must pass a physical examination and a pre-employment drug test. Must maintain ability to be a credible witness in court. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
