The Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server is responsible for the timely and accurate service of a wide range of legal documents, including court orders, notices, subpoenas, garnishments, property executions, commitments, show-cause orders, and protection orders, ensuring all actions comply with applicable laws and procedures. In this role, the Part-Time Certified Civil Process Server regularly interacts with individuals to deliver these documents in a professional and lawful manner, often in sensitive or high-risk situations, and is required to carry a firearm in accordance with agency policy. Additionally, the position serves as a key point of contact for the public, attorneys, businesses, and law enforcement agencies, providing clear and accurate information regarding civil papers and the civil process while maintaining a high standard of customer service and professionalism.
High school diploma or GED plus two years of work experience in a law enforcement environment. Must be a Certified Law Enforcement Officer and meet all of the requirements of the State of South Dakota to remain certified. Comparable combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid driver's license and have a safe driving record. Must pass a physical examination and a pre-employment drug test. Must maintain ability to be a credible witness in court. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.
