Parks & Recreation Senior Maintenance Specialist/Motocross Track Operator

**Schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, Monday & Tuesday off**

Ensure all Tooele County Parks and Recreation assets and facilities are safe and usable when patrons desire to use them. Performs skilled construction and maintenance work as needed, troubleshoots problems, and completes work orders for Tooele County Parks and Recreation.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of the Park Operations Manager & Director of Parks & Recreation.


SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

May serve as lead worker overseeing temporary, seasonal workers and volunteers and oversee contractors, parks, and recreation patrons in the absence of the Operations Manager or Director.


EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Required to work variable shifts and rotating days to include holidays. Must be on-call 24 hours per day. (This needs to stay)

Performs maintenance and equipment operation on county-owned dirt tracks and arenas.

Troubleshoots problems with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and irrigation systems. Makes assignments for repairs on all county buildings and facilities.

Performs all levels of construction and maintenance of indoor and outdoor Tooele County Parks and Recreation facilities.

Performs maintenance such as fertilizing; spraying for weed and pest controls; planting, pruning, and removing trees and shrubs; picking up trash; cleaning restrooms; replacing supplies; mows, trims, edges, cuts, and cleaning up uncontrolled weeds; digging holes; and removes snow.

Performs maintenance and repair on sprinkling systems, plumbing, electrical, heating/air conditioning, roads, parking areas, RV park, and landscaped areas.

Assures Tooele County Parks and Recreation facilities are prepared for various events.

Performs construction work using a variety of materials wood, concrete, and steel.

Performs repair and maintenance work on all equipment used to maintain Tooele County Parks & Recreation facilities.

Assist and oversees facility patrons and contractors. Ability to oversee contractors, employee safety, and OSHA standards.

Ability to safely operate and maintain heavy equipment and various power tools.

Responsible for securing the facility at the close of operation.

Keeps maintenance records on all equipment and Parks and Recreation facilities of Tooele County.

Responsible for troubleshooting problems and determining cost estimates of necessary repairs.

Assures employee and public safety during maintenance and repair procedures.

Responsible for assuring the safety of the public and county patrons during maintenance and construction.

Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school, plus two (2) years of specialized training or certification in the repair of plumbing, electrical, landscape maintenance, and irrigation systems, provided through professionally sponsored workshops in-service or college.

AND

  • Up to three (3) years of experience in construction, maintenance, heavy equipment operation

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge of building and grounds utilities maintenance repair problems and techniques; working knowledge of safety precautions around power hand tools and medium to heavy-duty equipment.

Skill in using hand tools; knowledge of water, sewer, and electrical operations.

Ability to operate various hand and power tools used in construction and grounds and maintenance equipment.

Must possess a valid (CDL) driver's license or be able to acquire one within six months of employment. This needs to stay including the flexible hours and on call.

Must possess certifications in at least one of the following heavy equipment: backhoe, track-hoe, loader, dozer, and forklift within six (6) months of hire.

This category involves frequent lifting of 100 pounds with occasional lifting. This is often combined with bending, twisting, or working on irregular surfaces or at heights above the ground. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, heat, cold, and dust.

Must have OSHA training for hazardous material handling and confined space entry.

Ability to deal effectively and maintain good working relationships with other employees, private contractors, and members of the public; ability to think and act independently. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and think and act independently on routine matters.
