This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

HOURS OF WORK:Schedules vary: (4/10's) -Mon-Thu, 6am-4:30pm;Tue-Fri, 6am-4:30pm;Fri-Mon, 6am-4:30pm;Wed-Sat 6am-4:30pm;Sun-Wed 6am-4:30pm - All shifts with 30 minute meal period

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

  • Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Local union dispatched applicants
  • External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
Under the general supervision of the Healthy Spaces Superintendent, the Working Foreman leads, trains, and directs employees, Healthy Spaces crews, and volunteers in the cleanup of illegal camps and the maintenance of park lands, trails, and municipal facilities. This position plans and conducts field operations to remove trash, debris, waste, and abandoned personal property while ensuring safe work practices and compliance with Municipal procedures. The Working Foreman also performs skilled park maintenance tasks using a variety of tools and equipment, including landscaping, trail and grounds upkeep, snow and ice removal, and minor facility repairs, often involving heavy manual labor. The role requires independent judgment, strong leadership, effective communication, and the ability to restore Municipal property to safe, clean, and usable conditions for public use

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in park maintenance, landscape, trails, and operation and maintenance of associated equipment which includes two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

OR

Associate’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Design, or similar discipline and four (4) years of experience in park maintenance, landscape, trails, and operation and maintenance of associated equipment which includes two (2) years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Landscape Design, or similar discipline and two (2) years of experience in park maintenance, landscape, trails, and operation and maintenance of associated equipment which includes one (1) year of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity.

· A valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and satisfactory driving record is required at time of hire

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.


If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDLB) or higher, with Tank endorsement, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory drug screen prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.

All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.


As a condition of employment, the candidate selected must provide their Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire.


Military Service Interview Preference
