This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

HOURS OF WORK:Varies:4/10's-Mon-Thu, 6am-4:30pm; Tue-Fri, 6am-4:30pm, Fri-Mon, 6am-4:30pm, Wed-Sat 6am-4:30pm, Sun-Wed 6am-4:30pm; all shifts w/1/2 hr meal period.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage Park land and facilities in a safe and useable condition fo rthe general public to enjoy/ Depending on assignment, general supervision is provided by the Park Maintenance Supervisor. This is a mid-level position in the park caretaker series. Incumbents in this class have developed more skills and abilities through experience and training and perform the more skilled assignments and may lead park caretaker I positions. The duties assigned to employees in this class require the ability to work independently, exercising judgment, initiative and direct the work of lower-level staff on a project or a day-to-day basis. This position maintains municipal park property including parks, playgrounds, trails, athletic fields, outdoor recreation facilities, and streetscapes. Duties include but are not limited to:Winter tasks- maintain ice rinks, ski trails, park equipment, and removing snow from trails, walkways, staircases, tunnels, parking lots, and roadways.Summer tasks- Mow and maintain park and field turf, clean and repair bike trails, inspect and repair playground equipment, remove graffiti, maintain sports fields, construct, install and repair park equipment, amenities and structures.Year-round tasks- collect litter, inspect and repair playground equipment and parks amenities, generate reports, clean and maintain equipment and shops in accordance to Department standards. This position requires knowledge of light equipment, small tool operation, ability and legal authorization to drive and operate various types of vehicles and equipment, read and comprehend instruction manuals, landscape and construction plans, and maps. Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent,andone (1) year experience as a Parks Caretaker I or the equivalent.

Must possess a valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.


If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's Alaska Driver's License, and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states, if the Alaska Driver's License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required certifications and/or licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.


As a condition of employment, the candidate selected must provide their Union Dispatch Referral Form by the time of hire.


Military Service Interview Preference

Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
