Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. For a complete job description, including a list of typical duties, and required skills, knowledge and abilities, please clickhereor visit the Classified Human Resources Office.Under the immediate supervision of an assigned supervisor and general direction of a classroom teacher, specialist or therapist, assists in providing academic, behavior and social-emotional supports to individual or small groups of students to enhance learning. Monitors and reports student progress according to state standards, classroom objectives and the individualized education program (IEP), including health and/or behavioral plans. May assist students in developing various self-help skills, including hygiene, toileting, eating, social, community and leisure/recreational skills. Provides emergency health-related assistance to students as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Requires a high school diploma or the equivalent. Requires two years of college (48 units) or pass the District’s assessment that demonstrates knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction or pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST). An Associate’s degree is highly desirable.
Experience: Some experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults in an organized setting. Experience working with individuals with special developmental needs is desirable.
LICENSES & OTHERREQUIREMENTS- NCPI (Non-Violent Crisis Intervention) training and certification preferred.
TESTING INFORMATIONThe examination process may be comprised of a multiple choice exam, performance assessment, computer skills exam, or any combination of assessment appropriate to determine technical ability to perform the duties listed in the
job description.Step 1: Application Screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications.
Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position will be emailed an examination pass.Exam passes will not be sent until after the closing date for the position. ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION
New Hires – Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
- Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
- Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position) To be considered for advanced salary placement upon hire transcripts and/or diploma must be provided
All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.Promotional and/or transfer candidateswill be placed at the appropriate step in accordance with established Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations.Education Incentives
