Job Description

Join our team as a Painter Helper in the powder coater shop of a company specializing in custom-engineered electrical gear for the energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure sectors. You will work in the paint area adjacent to the machine shop, both inside and outside of a paint booth. Your main tasks will involve painting, powder coating, and spraying fabricated sheet metal for electrical cabinets. You will mix paint in specified ratios and ensure it meets thickness and adherence standards. Additionally, you will assist with moving materials and performing various tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in industrial painting, blasting, and prepping parts.
  • Work with painting, powder coating, and spraying fabricated sheet metal.
  • Mix paint according to specified ratios.
  • Test paint for appropriate thickness and adherence.
  • Perform general labor duties as needed, including paint prep and sanding.
  • Move materials and execute odd jobs in the paint area.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in industrial painting.
  • Experience with spray guns and sandblasting.
  • Ability to perform paint prep and work in a paint booth.
  • Experience with industrial paint applications.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Extensive experience in industrial painting.
  • Proficiency in blasting and sandblasting techniques.
  • Knowledge of working with various epoxies.
  • Experience with powder coating.
  • Ability to calculate paint millage.

Work Environment

The work environment is a medium-sized shop, one of four facilities, that is clean and organized. Although non-climate controlled, it features open bay doors and ample fans. It is a fast-paced production shop with about 15 people per shift, including machine operators, fabricators, QC personnel, material handlers, and managers. You will work the night shift, Monday to Friday from 6:00pm to 6:00am, with common work hours of 50-60 hours per week. Safety gear includes steel-toed shoes, jeans, work shirt, and safety glasses.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $16.00/hr.
