Job Title: Paint Technician / Paint Defect Analyst

Job Description

This role focuses on analyzing paint defects within an automotive paint shop, ensuring accurate quality counts, identifying root causes of contamination, and supporting continuous improvement of paint processes. You will work closely with production and quality teams to collect, verify, and interpret data, maintain defect tracking systems, and contribute to resolving quality issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete paint quality counts in a timely and accurate manner across various paint shop processes.
  • Conduct counts in areas such as e-coat, sanding, prep deck, and finesse locations within the paint shop.
  • Verify paint defects through root cause analysis to determine the source of contamination and quality issues.
  • Use the Dirt App to verify defect counts and communicate trends based on collected data.
  • Update and maintain Dirt Notification boards and postings to keep teams informed of current issues and trends.
  • Maintain the Dirt Library database with accurate and up-to-date information on defects and contamination studies.
  • Update SharePoint sites with relevant quality, defect, and study information to support cross-functional communication.
  • Assist in developing best practices for construction and cleaning methods, material quality and process, equipment usage, and maintenance procedures.
  • Support the development of methodologies to diagnose new or recurring contamination problems through structured studies.
  • Participate in dirt studies and quality issue resolution activities as part of cross-functional defect teams.
  • Maintain and update action item lists for dirt studies and quality resolution activities on a weekly basis, based on completed tasks and Dirt Report meetings.
  • Review and interpret analysis data to support decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide daily documentation and record keeping using Excel spreadsheets and other data entry tools.
  • Troubleshoot paint booth balance issues as needed to support stable and consistent paint application.
  • Collect, review, and analyze paint booth environmental data to identify conditions that may contribute to defects.
  • Perform all work in a logical, orderly, and skillful manner, following established procedures and standards.
  • Apply all applicable safety standards and practices while working in and around paint shop equipment and production areas.
  • Communicate effectively with site leadership and co-workers regarding operational issues, including responding to phone calls or text messages as required to support operations.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, for data entry, analysis, and documentation.
  • Experience with root cause analysis methods to identify and resolve quality and contamination issues.
  • Knowledge of paint contamination analysis and defect identification in an automotive paint shop environment.
  • Experience in quality inspection and quality control within a manufacturing or paint shop setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and propose effective corrective actions.
  • Understanding of paint shop processes such as e-coat, sanding, prep deck, and finesse operations.
  • Ability to perform accurate and timely data entry and maintain organized records.
  • Capability to walk multiple miles per day and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell as required by the job duties.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

This position is based on-site in an automotive manufacturing paint shop environment. You will regularly work near moving mechanical parts, including conveyors, paint booth robots, and forklifts, with a typically moderate noise level. The standard shift runs Monday through Friday starting at 3:30 p.m. and follows production line time, typically 8 hours with the potential for 9–10 hour days. There may be occasional Saturday work depending on production needs. Production schedules, including late shifts, weekends, and periodic shutdowns, directly influence work hours, and flexibility is required to support these schedules. The role involves significant physical activity, including walking multiple miles per day, standing, sitting, using hands, reaching with arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and using the sense of smell to identify issues. You must be able to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Communication about operational issues may occur via phone calls or text messages from managers or co-workers, including off-shift, and responding to these communications is part of the role.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Spring Hill, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr.
