Paint Process Engineer – Robotics & Automation

Job Type: Direct Hire

Salary: $100,000 - $130,000 (+ Based on Experience)


We are seeking a Paint Process Engineer with strong experience in industrial paint automation and robotics to support a growing manufacturing operation. This role will be responsible for optimizing automated paint processes, supporting new product launches, troubleshooting equipment issues, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume production environment.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience programming, validating, and optimizing robotic paint systems while collaborating with engineering, maintenance, quality, suppliers, and production teams.


Key Responsibilities

  • Program, validate, optimize, and troubleshoot robotic paint systems.
  • Lead paint process development for new product launches from concept through production.
  • Develop and improve robot motion paths, spray patterns, and application processes.
  • Support equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and validation activities.
  • Evaluate and select paint application equipment, including fluid delivery systems, nozzles, applicators, and spray technology.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, throughput, efficiency, and waste reduction.
  • Work closely with maintenance and production teams to resolve process and equipment issues.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to specify and implement new automation equipment.
  • Analyze process data and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
  • Support quality systems and ensure compliance with applicable manufacturing standards.
  • Manage engineering projects related to paint operations, automation, and process improvements.


Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in paint process engineering, coatings, finishing, or automated paint systems.
  • Hands-on experience with robotic paint application systems.
  • Experience programming, validating, and optimizing industrial robots.
  • Strong PLC knowledge, preferably Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation platforms.
  • Experience with paint delivery systems, applicators, nozzles, spray equipment, or fluid handling systems.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing process improvements and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of quality systems and manufacturing standards such as IATF 16949, TS 16949, or ISO 14001.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field (preferred, not required).
  • Experience with Fanuc paint robots, including P-Series platforms.
  • Experience with ABB, Kawasaki, Motoman, or KUKA paint automation systems.
  • Experience in automotive, Tier 1 supplier, aerospace, consumer goods, trailer, RV, or industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting product launches and capital equipment projects.
